Staying hydrated is essential during a desert getaway, especially when your plans include hiking, golf, pool time, or exploring the resort during the summer. Spa La Quinta Manager Allen Camasura shares a few simple ways to stay refreshed, energized, and ahead of the heat.

“In the desert, hydration isn’t just about drinking more water. It’s about staying ahead of the heat. If you wait until you’re thirsty, you’re already behind,” Allen says.

Hydration supports much more than thirst. It helps regulate body temperature, maintain energy, support circulation and digestion, and keep skin feeling healthy.

“Think of hydration as a full-body protection plan. Water supports circulation, temperature regulation, energy, digestion, and even the way your skin looks and feels.”

Start hydrating before heading outdoors and take steady sips rather than drinking a large amount all at once. Allen also recommends preparing the night before an active day.

“Hydration starts the night before. If you’re planning a hike, a pool day, or a long round of golf, your best results come from preparing early, not reacting mid-heat.”

Electrolytes are also important when sweating or spending extended time outdoors. Coconut water, bananas, watermelon, cucumbers, and tomatoes can help replenish nutrients that support the muscles, nerves, and heart.

While outside, take a few sips every 30 to 45 minutes. Balance each cocktail with a glass of water and drink water before having coffee. Headaches, fatigue, dizziness, or cramps may be signs that it is time to hydrate and move somewhere cool.

Whether you are relaxing poolside or enjoying an active day in the desert, preparing early and drinking consistently can help you make the most of your stay.
